Jury sees pictures, samples in Tarver trial

Prosecutors showed photographs of a large haul of marijuana and pulled out core samples in front of a jury as part of their case against Lorenzo Tarver.

But the samples and the photographs are all prosecutors have to present as drug evidence against the 36-year-old Greenwood man on trial for possession of more than 81 pounds of pot.

Manslaughter shouldn't have been an option, attorneys for Edgar Ray Killen say

JACKSON - Attorneys for Edgar Ray Killen say a judge should not have let a jury consider manslaughter in the case.

A Neshoba County jury convicted Killen of manslaughter last summer in the 1964 murders of Michael Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman. The three men were civil rights workers in Neshoba County.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
