Ross: Get to know new voting machines

The chairman of the Leflore County Democratic Executive Committee urged an audience Wednesday night to get acquainted with the new touch-screen voting machines before the June 6 primaries.

Speaking to the Greenwood Voters League, Jesse Ross said, "Just to put it flatly, we're not going back. This is our future; this is our present."

Council approves rezoning for nursing home

The Greenwood City Council approved the rezoning of 13.35 acres in North Greenwood to accommodate a nursing home planning to move there.

Crystal Health and Rehab of Greenwood, LLC, which currently occupies a three-story building on U.S. 82, will lease the new building on Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive and transfer its residents there.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
