School board to apply for grants

The Leflore County School Board approved applying for two grants Monday — one for rural and low-income districts and another for students who are homeless or live in substandard housing.

Both grants are offered through the state.

Carroll's losing streak hits 20

CARROLLTON - Carroll Academy's football team suffered through a tough night Friday, losing at home 27-6 against Deer Creek and losing two quarterbacks to injuries.

The loss drops the Rebels to 0-4 on the season and is the school's 20th loss in a row overall. The visiting Warriors improved their record to 3-1.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
