Tchula man remembered for work ethic

Trent Benford’s disability prevented him from doing the kind of work he wanted, but it didn’t keep him from helping others, his sister said Monday.

Mr. Benford, 38, was found dead in Tchula Lake early Monday afternoon. The Tchula resident had been missing since Saturday.

Baldwin stays busy as Food Pantry volunteer

Even at 70 years old, Elijah Baldwin likes staying busy and helping others.

From July through December, he works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. But he doesn’t take it easy in the other months either; he works at the Community Food Pantry two days a week.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
