Carter has had ‘wonderful ride’ at Russell’s

Sara Ann Carter says it will be emotional when she closes Russell’s Antiques and Fine Jewelry at the end of the year, but she feels the time is right.

Carter, who has owned the store for 34 years, said she decided at the first of 2011 that she was ready to set a date for retirement. Russell’s celebrated its 50th anniversary in April.

Davis Barrentine wins national award from Domino's

When Diane Davis Barrentine and others at Domino’s Pizza discussed adding an award to recognize top women in the company, Davis Barrentine made one request.

“I said, ‘I’ll help you create this as long as I never win it,’” said the Coila resident, who owns six Domino’s locations and co-owns another.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
