Port Eliot set to focus on wholesale

With Port Eliot’s retail showroom closing, owner Bill Malouf says he’ll miss interacting with customers on the sales floor but looks forward to simplifying his life.

The furniture business, which opened on Walthall Street about 15 years ago and later moved to Howard Street, is transitioning into an exclusively wholesale operation.

Wade Litton has been chosen as the next vice president of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the chamber’s Agriculture Committee and Board of Directors and says he tries to take part in its activities whenever possible.

City, Carroll Co. add students

The Greenwood and Carroll County public school districts recorded small enrollment increases this year, while the student total in Leflore County is down.

Enrollment increased by 2.9 percent in the Greenwood district and 1.6 percent in Carroll County and dropped 4.2 percent in Leflore County.

Mission Miss. celebration Sunday

The mayors of Greenwood and Sidon say they are glad to represent Leflore County on Sunday at an event stressing racial unity.

The gathering is sponsored by Mission Mississippi, a racial reconciliation group. It will be held at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Jackson.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
