Growth continues at Delta Streets

Delta Streets Academy keeps growing, with 55 students enrolled for the fall and 11th grade added this year.

Classes will start Aug. 10.

T. Mac Howard, the school’s executive director, said the 2015-2016 enrollment probably will be limited to 60 students, including boys from seventh grade through 11th grade.

She still heeds mother’s words on church

When Nallie Edith Gilbert was growing up, going to church was expected.

“Mama always said, ‘Just be in church.’ It didn’t matter about the denomination; just go to church,” said Gilbert, the associate pastor of Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. “So that’s what we did.”

Bradford committed to helping children

Shlanda Byrd Bradford grew up in a loving home, but she knows a lot of children aren’t so lucky.

That’s why she started Reviving the Youth Ministries, which works with disadvantaged children. Over the years, she has become a surrogate parent to many of them, but she says they respond when they are given boundaries.
