Faith helped minister deal with adversity

The Rev. Frank Willis encountered a lot of adversity living in Greenwood years ago, but he used his faith to persevere.

He was called names during the days of racial turmoil, and he remembers when his pastor, the Rev. Donald Tucker, was mauled by a police dog and transferred to Bermuda after receiving death threats.

North New Summit adds iPads, new computers

North New Summit School has made some major technological upgrades in preparation for the new year.

With the help of a $20,000 Junior Auxiliary grant, the school will be incorporating iPads into its classwork. The grant helped buy 40 of the devices and two mobile charging carts.

Delta Streets Academy aiming for greatness, founder says

Delta Streets Academy is ready to take a big step forward this year, says its founder and executive director, T. Mac Howard.

Howard has done a little of everything in both academics and athletics since the all-boys Christian school opened, but now he will be able to delegate some of his past responsibilities.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
