MDCC president looks forward to building on good foundation

Mississippi Delta Community College's new president says his predecessors laid a good foundation for him, and he is prepared to make the school even better.

Dr. Larry Bailey took over as president of the Moorhead school July 1. He was named to the job June 21 after serving as dean of academic affairs for eight years.

Group asks supervisors for support to deter litterers

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors has directed its attorney to meet with community representatives to see what can be done about littering and illegal dumping.

Representatives of the Community Pride Committee of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce spoke to the board on the issue.

Two still in custody for stealing ammonia

The Leflore County Sheriff's Department has arrested two suspects on charges of stealing anhydrous ammonia and is looking for a third.

Amanda Carol Palmer, 20, of Mississippi 16 in Carthage, and Micheal Boatner, 38, of 622 Valley St., Carthage, were jailed with no bond after being arrested Saturday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
