“Everybody knows me in Greenwood,” he said. “I’ve been in grocery stores all my life around here.”

Musician still loves doing church work

Fred Wilson Jr. has been a big part of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church’s music ministry for many years, and at the age of 70, he plans to keep on going.

“As long as I keep my health coming on back pretty good, I’m going to stick with it,” he said.

Merged district’s enrollment down from last year’s total

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
