City welcomes Milwaukee Tool

Managers of Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. and Greenwood and Leflore County leaders pledged to work together Thursday during a gathering to welcome the new manufacturer.

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove also was on hand at the Chamber of Commerce building for the official announcement.

Singer pursued goals without drugs, alcohol

Singer Sheba Potts-Wright has pursued her goals without drugs and alcohol, and on Tuesday she urged Amanda Elzy High School students to do the same.

Potts-Wright, a 1985 Elzy graduate who now lives in Memphis, spoke at Elzy as part of the school's Red Ribbon Week. The event also included a performance by Elzy's Pride team.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
