This week, the owner of Fan & Johnny’s restaurant in downtown Greenwood became one of 50 female chefs — one from each state — featured by USA Today.

Court says no to Smith suit about Hood

The Mississippi Supreme Court has rejected Dr. Arnold Smith’s argument that Attorney General Jim Hood has been illegally performing law-enforcement duties.

By an 8-0 vote, the high court affirmed a lower court’s decision last year that Smith’s claim that the attorney general is part of the judicial branch is legally flawed.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
