Clinic not making county jail visits

One killed, three injured in one-car wreck

An early morning car crash Sunday killed a back-seat passenger and injured three others in the vehicle, including the driver.

Keonta Bradfield, 21, of 218 Taft St. in Greenwood, died at the scene of the accident from internal injuries, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.

Mary Hurt Wright, granddaughter of John Hurt and director of the Mississippi John Hurt Foundation, hopes to reach out to former members of St. James Baptist Church and the Avalon community, as well as clergy and interested participants in Greenwood, Leflore and Carroll County, to establish a retreat center for at-risk women and disadvantaged youth.

Now his granddaughter, Mary Hurt Wright, wants to extend his life again, into the place where he lived, bringing women at risk and youth in need to a rural setting in Carroll County to renew themselves in a safe, peaceful setting.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
