A story in Wednesday’s Jackson Clarion Ledger says a $4 million price tag attached to the almost completely deteriorated Bryant’s Grocery and Meat Market in Money is preventing efforts to preserve or rebuild the location of Emmett Till’s famous wolf whistle as a significant site in civil rights history.

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday confiscated 28 pounds of marijuana, around $7,000 in cash and two pistols from the home of a man arrested just two years ago and currently on probation.

City budget has no tax increase

Greenwood’s City Council on Tuesday announced a fiscal year 2018-19 budget that will require no increase in the tax rate. Greenwood’s current millage rate is 50.26.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
