Pearl, a 5-year-old English bulldog, was shot in the face Thursday morning in Greenwood, allegedly by a former police officer who told authorities the dog had run at him growling. The owner of the dog says his children were traumatized by the shooting of their pet.

When Jim Holly was loading up his kids to take them to school Wednesday morning, he froze in his tracks upon hearing a loud gun blast.

A few seconds later, Pearl, Holly’s pet English bulldog, came running from the front of the house on Greenwood’s West President Avenue to the side carport with blood pouring from her mouth.

Valley, Hinds CC sign transfer deal

Students at Hinds Community College will now be able to take upper-level Mississippi Valley State University classes, thanks to a 2 Plus 2 agreement signed last week between the two schools.

MVSU has similar agreements with Coahoma, Holmes and Mississippi Delta community colleges.

Drivers-by might have noticed large pipes, cleared land and trucks moving in and out of the rural location in recent weeks.
