Carroll seniors to graduate Monday

The graduation season kicks off on Monday with Carroll Academy’s ceremony at 7 p.m. in the school gym.

The school has 29 graduating seniors.

The valedictorian of the class of 2018 is Kalie Teal, 18, of Carrollton, with a 4.0 grade point average on a 4-point scale.

Rep. Perkins says he will run for chancery judge

State Rep. Willie Perkins has announced his intentions to run for chancery judge.

The longtime Democratic lawmaker from Greenwood told those gathered at the Greenwood Voters League meeting Wednesday that he has qualified to seek the seat held by Jon M. Barnwell since 1989.

Crime scene tape stretches alongside the downtown Greenwood post office this morning as police gather evidence following the discovery of a woman’s body between the hedges and the building. Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders identified the woman as 33-year-old Connie Delaune and said Delaune had been dead for several hours. The cause of death has not been determined.

The body of a 33-year-old woman, apparently dead for several hours, was discovered this morning on the grounds of the downtown Greenwood post office.

Authorities say the cause of death has not been determined.
