School merger plans discussed

A representative from the Mississippi Department of Education met Tuesday with Greenwood and Leflore County public school superintendents and the Greenwood School Board to help lay out a plan for creating a consolidated school district.

Kathryn EastburnJenny and Kenneth Thompson will not rebuild the demolished Greenwood Funeral Home on Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive, which was struck by lightning on April 6. Their last day as owners of the business will be Thursday. Ray Mattox, managing funeral director, will take over on Friday, running operations out of temporary office space at 331 W. Park Ave.

Thompsons won't rebuild funeral home

Kenneth and Jenny Thompson, owners of the Greenwood Funeral Home, will not rebuild the recently demolished building on Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive, following a lightning strike on April 6 that burned the roof, blew out the windows and doors and charred the building throughout.

ArtPlace students to model handcrafted designs

Project Runway is booming.

The ArtPlace Mississippi sewing program, which is based in Greenwood, kicked off in 2014 with a handful of students. This year, the program drew 85 applications from students who attend 15 different schools in and around Leflore County.
