At the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, none of the kindergartens in the Greenwood or Leflore County school districts met the state benchmark for early reading.
But by the end of the school year, in spring of 2018, all schools in both districts and many across Mississippi had raised their reading scores well above that benchmark.
