District focusing on state tests

Senate panel OKs local tourism bill

State Sen. David Jordan’s bill to extend the repeal date on the Greenwood Tourism Commission and the ability of Greenwood to collect hotel and restaurant taxes to support tourism has passed out of the Senate Local and Private Committee with amendments.

City hosting state tourism gathering

Greenwood is host this week to some 100 tourism professionals from across the state, in town to talk about how to promote home as a destination for travelers.

The Mississippi Tourism Association’s spring conference, “Setting the Table for Tourism,” started Tuesday at The Historic Elks Building and concludes today at The Alluvian.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
