MedStat answers criticism

Leflore County supervisors on Monday once again hashed over emergency medical services provided by MedStat, giving the company a chance to respond to recent complaints about service.

No decision was made about whether to retain MedStat or to hire another company for emergency ambulance services.

Apprentices to boost efficiency in homes

A job readiness program currently receiving applications will help some Greenwood homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient.

The Leflore Energy Apprentice Program (LEAP) will hire six employees for summer work and will provide energy upgrades to 16 households. Those who are eligible are encouraged to apply now.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
