Grant to fund science, math education among minorities

Middle-school girls in Greenwood will be learning more about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) thanks to a grant received by the Mississippi Valley State University department of Mathematics, Computer and Information Sciences.

Wayside House, a 1903 five-bay frame dwelling, is one of five vintage homes open for touring during this year’s Historic Pilgrimage and Pioneer Day Festival at Carrollton, on Friday and Saturday. Tickets for the Pilgrimage are $25 for adults and $10 for students from first through 12th grades. Pilgrimage homes, historic churches and other buildings will be open for touring from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. On Saturday, the Pilgrimage will coincide with Pioneer Day, to be held in the town center. Admission to Pioneer Day is free.
