Man goes on trial in 2009 escape

A man charged with helping his cousin, a Delta Correctional Facility inmate, escape during an eye doctor’s appointment in 2009 was scheduled to go to trial today.

Courtney Logan of Louisville, Ky., is charged with helping Joseph Jackson Jr. escape while Jackson was at The Eye Station.

MVSU police chief promises ‘consequences’ in bomb threat

Whoever called in a phony bomb threat to Mississippi Valley State University on Monday morning will face consequences, MVSU Police Chief Robert Sanders said.

The threat was called in at around 8 a.m., and the Sutton Administration Building was evacuated.

Prosecutor recuses self in assault case

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
