The Book of Golden Deeds, which was established in 1919, recognizes volunteers who give endless time to making their communities better places to live.

A 20-year-old Greenwood man was released on $10,000 bond Wednesday after allegedly kidnapping his former girlfriend on Sunday just outside Mississippi Delta Community College’s Moorhead campus.

Police search for shooters

Greenwood police are investigating two unrelated Wednesday incidents of gunfire, one of which injured a man.

At about 2:45 p.m., witnesses reported shots fired from a gray Nissan Maxima in the yard of 417 Nichols St.

Antrown Williams told police that two men had ridden by the yard and shot at him. He fired back.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
