I just went through my first social media election. And it might be my last.

Congratulations to President Obama and his supporters on his re-election. Congratulations to Republican challenger Mitt Romney for running a spirited, if unsuccessful, campaign.

And to both candidates’ supporters, I’d like to say: Give it a rest.

3 arraignments expected Mon.

Dr. Arnold Smith and the two men with whom he is accused of conspiring in an unsuccessful murder-for-hire plot are expected to be arraigned on Monday.

The arraignments, at which the defendants will be read the charges against them and enter their pleas, are scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Leflore County Justice Center.

Superintendent opposes charter schools

Leflore County School Superintendent Viola Williams McCaskill said Tuesday she is opposed to converting any of the district’s six schools into a charter school.

McCaskill’s statement came ahead of a meeting today on the possibility of getting either Amanda Elzy High School or Leflore County High School designated as a charter school.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
