Mississippi lost one of the good guys last week when Dave “Boo” Ferriss died at age 94.
Ferriss, a native of Shaw, was a standout athlete at Mississippi State University, where he was the first player to earn a full baseball scholarship. He signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1942 but his baseball career was interrupted by World War II.
