It started with enactment of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, and is now about to be expanded by the Federal Communications Commission.

Cameras stir interest in courts

JACKSON - Cameras in the courtroom in Mississippi? I never thought I would live to see the day that would happen.

But it has. Starting July 1.

Once again, it shows that a reformer can come along and change the way things have always been done.

Freedom of the press in Mississippi has just moved to a higher level.

JACKSON - Every year when commemoration services for Holocaust victims roll around, Gilbert Metz is grateful to be alive. He puts the horror of Auschwitz and Dachau further behind him, no matter that his prisoner number remains tattooed on his arm.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
