JACKSON — At the height of the riot on the Ole Miss campus the night of Sept. 30, 1962, Ed Guthman, Attorney General Bobby Kennedy’s point man in the James Meredith integration crisis, was on the phone to his boss from the besieged Lyceum Building, saying: “It’s getting like the Alamo.”
