Doc: Clinic closure is difficult

Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Aziz has to fight back the tears when he thinks about leaving his patients.
He wants them to know that his departure from the Greenwood pain clinic he has headed for the past 18 years was not what he wanted but something he felt compelled to do for his own financial security.

Clinic to close July 8

Greenwood Leflore Hospital will be closing its Pain Management Center after the physician who ran it decided to not renew his contract.
The outpatient clinic, which treats those suffering from chronic pain, will close July 8, according to a letter mailed May 10 to its patients by Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Aziz.

More people seeking help for mental health

The stigma attached to mental illness has considerably lessened over the past two decades, as Americans come to realize how common the ailment is.
With that decline in stigma has also come a willingness by people to seek help, says Jonathan Grantham, the clinical director at Life Help mental health center.
