Ruleville hospital buys Park Ave. building

Lee Abraham has sold to North Sunflower Medical Center the building that currently houses his donut shop as well as the Greenwood campus of Mississippi Delta Community College.
The transaction, the price of which was not disclosed, means both of those current tenants will be relocating.

Hospital’s lease on life extended into ’24

Greenwood Leflore Hospital is saying that a series of state and local relief efforts have provided it with enough of a financial cushion to survive at least into 2024.
That’s seven months longer than it was projecting just a couple of weeks ago and almost a year longer than how things stood at the end of 2022.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
