Since its founding in 2016, Mississippi Today has had at times a contentious relationship with the state’s governors.
Phil Bryant refused early on to talk to its reporters, and most recently a spokesman for Bryant’s successor, fellow Republican Tate Reeves, described the nonprofit news organization as “an unregistered Democrat PAC.”
