Carroll County: Walker wins easily; Inmon elected tax assessor-collector

Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker has cruised to an easy win in the Democratic primary.
Walker, seeking a third term, won 84% of the vote over two challengers, according to Tuesday’s final but unofficial returns.
He will advance to face Michael H. Peeples, an independent, in the Nov. 7 general election.

Supes haven’t paid funds sought by auditor

Almost two years after State Auditor Shad White issued a demand for more than $113,000 against four Leflore County supervisors, not a cent has been paid.
A least one of those supervisors says he doesn’t intend to fork out any of the money unless ordered to by a court.

McDaniel not to be trusted

There are a few issues in which I agree with Chris McDaniel.
Like him, I am disappointed that the Mississippi Senate, under the leadership of Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, has been an obstacle to restoring the initiative process that citizens had for three decades until the Mississippi Supreme Court killed it in 2021 over a technicality.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
