Greenwood and Leflore County officials — at least some of them — have wanted to get out of the hospital business.
They tried in 2022 and again in 2023 to lease Greenwood Leflore Hospital, only to have one interested party back away at the 11th hour and two others to submit proposals that were not worth considering.

Pageant winners will visit Greenwood

When Betty Aden got involved with the senior pageant circuit a decade ago, she visited the hometowns of many of the women she met at the competitions.
She is returning the favor next week, organizing a gathering in Greenwood of 12 former or reigning queens from six states Feb. 16-18.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
