GLH makes small profit

Greenwood Leflore Hospital made a slight profit in May.
According to the financial statements released Tuesday during the monthly meeting of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board, the hospital showed an operating profit of almost $59,000 on nearly $6.2 million in revenue.

GLH drops to ‘D’ on patient safety rating

Greenwood Leflore Hospital has dropped to a “D” grade on a national survey of health-care safety.
Hospital officials, however, say the low grade from The Leapfrog Group is unfair because it does not take into account how much the hospital has scaled back its operations over the past two years in response to financial stress.

When Judy Nail first tried her hand three years ago at plein air painting, it was a disaster.
She couldn’t concentrate on her canvas, as onlookers at the event in Santa Fe, New Mexico, gawked and interrupted her. She packed up her paints and her easel and called it a day.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
