Music-themed art now adorns park

Greenwood’s Rail Spike Park has gotten an extra musical touch.
The linear park, which has become the occasional venue for outdoor concerts, now sports the images of musical notes and instruments along several spots on its walking path.
The public art is a project of Main Street Greenwood.

MDCC interim president hopes to keep Greenwood site going

The interim president of Mississippi Delta Community College says she hopes to keep the school’s Greenwood branch going, but a lot will depend on whether it can find a suitable location over the next year.
“I want to stay in Greenwood if at all possible,” Teresa Webster told the Greenwood Rotary Club Wednesday.

Hospital posts $1.6M loss for June

Greenwood Leflore Hospital posted last month its worst loss since November, but hospital officials say it was not as bad as it looked on paper.
According to the monthly financial reports released Tuesday, the hospital had an operating loss of $1.6 million in June. That comes one month after posting a small profit in May.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
