Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams can be forgiven for not realizing, until a reporter informed her, that this community has one of the worst lead exposure problems in Mississippi.

I didn’t know it either. And I suspect most of the people living here have been oblivious to the situation as well.

Indywood Glen manager disputes outbreak report

The manager of Indywood Glen Personal Care Home says the Mississippi State Department of Health is misreporting the size of the COVID-19 outbreak at her assisted living facility.

For that matter, argues Sharon Harvey, the term “outbreak” is a misnomer for the minor extent of infection it has experienced.

4th long-term care site in county has virus outbreak

A fourth long-term care facility in Leflore County has an active outbreak of COVID-19.

Its identity, though, may not be known until Friday, when the Mississippi State Department of Health releases its weekly list of nursing homes or other long-term care facilities with at least one active case of the new coronavirus.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
