County coroner calls rising COVID numbers ‘scary’

Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders was shocked when she took stock of the recent surge of cases in COVID-19.
“I’m looking at the numbers, and I see the numbers are continuously rising. That’s a very big concern. It’s really scary,” she said.

GLH intensive care unit still full

Greenwood Leflore Hospital’s intensive care unit remained full Thursday, as hospitals throughout Mississippi scramble to cope with an influx of COVID-19 patients.
The Greenwood hospital was treating five patients with the virus, and the rest of its lone operating ICU was taken up by other patients with serious illnesses or injuries.

Ex-Itta Bena city clerk has made progress repaying funds

A former Itta Bena city clerk continues to make slow progress toward paying back the tens of thousands of dollars she embezzled from that Leflore County town.
Meanwhile a former Greenwood police officer has still not paid a penny demanded of her by the State Audit Department.
