Long history of Wright Station will end soon

After standing tall for over 100 years, the historic Wright Generating Station soon will be coming down.
At a ceremony Friday morning, the long history of Wright Station was honored. The generating plant was erected in 1902 for Greenwood Light & Water, which became Greenwood Utilities in 1953.

Facade to come down; structure used in 'Women of the Movement'

The facade for the Emmett Till townhouse and a neighboring townhouse appearing in the upcoming ABC series “Women of the Movement” will be coming down, says Danielle Morgan, executive director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
