3 charged with murder, burglary

Three Holmes County residents charged Tuesday by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department with burglary in a May break-in at a hunting camp near Vaiden also were charged with capital murder in mid-June in the death of an Ocean Springs man.

Tax-free weekend: Shoppers can save money on eligible items Friday, Saturday

Those waiting for the perfect opportunity to shop for school supplies and parents looking for clothes for their kids have the perfect opportunity during the annual statewide tax-free weekend.
Many stores in Greenwood will be offering sales Friday and Saturday with a 7% discount on eligible items.

Greenwood CVB director moves on to top state job

After nearly five years as executive director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, Danielle Morgan has left to take the same position with the Mississippi Tourism Association.
Morgan, who joined the Greenwood bureau in September 2016, said she enjoyed the work.

Animal shelter adds 1 to its staff

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
