CEO: Staplcotn is 'proud to be in Greenwood'

As Staplcotn celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, it continues to be a pleasure to work in Greenwood, the cotton marketing cooperative’s president and CEO said Tuesday.
“We’re a 100-year-old company, and we’re proud to be in Greenwood,” Hank Reichle told the Greenwood Rotary Club. “I appreciate to let you know what we do.”

Shooting victim's mother mourns

With shakiness in her voice, Sharon Gordon remembered the kind of person her son, Marcus, was.

18-year-old killed Wednesday night

An 18-year-old Greenwood man was shot and killed Wednesday night.
According to Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks, Artravius Gillis was fatally wounded at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Thurman Drive.
No one had been arrested in the slaying as of Thursday morning.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
