Ware helping with search for next county administrator

Leroy Ware, the Leflore County tax assessor, who stepped in last week as the county’s temporary administrator, has tackled an administrative to-do list that includes preparing the Board of Supervisors to hire his replacement by the end of next month.

Susan Montgomery Emma, an 18-month-old pointer-terrier mix at the Leflore County Humane Society’s animal shelter, gets some loving attention from Zariah Holland, a Leflore County High School senior, while Holland gives Emma a dose of wormer. Zariah Holland, 18, says her life revolves around three activities: school, work and band.
And all these dovetail into a productive mix for Holland, who is a senior at Leflore County High School.
For example, she plays alto and tenor saxophone for the Tigers, and so that involves both study and performance.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
