People of all ages, races and ethnicities are invited to celebrate women’s contributions, both past and present, by gathering at the Yazoo River Trail between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday for the second annual Women’s “Herstory” Month Walk.

Mitchell appeals order for new election

Eric Mitchell, District 4’s Leflore County supervisor, is appealing the Feb. 22 judgment by a specially appointed judge that is forcing him to run for reelection in a special election slated for April 16.
Mitchell’s appeal was filed in Leflore County Circuit Court on Monday, the last day on which it could be entered.

Supervisors discuss special prosecutor for Moore case

As winds started to blow outside the Leflore County Courthouse Monday, inside storms picked up in the Board of Supervisors meeting room.
One concerned the topic of who will serve as the special prosecutor for a Justice Court DUI case against the board’s vice president, District 2 Supervisor Reginald Moore.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
