Nov. 5 date offered for bond-issue election

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board is being asked to set Nov. 5 as the date for a bond-issue election when it meets Tuesday.
The board heard from its attorney, state Sen. Derrick Simmons of Greenville, who spoke during a work session Wednesday.

Brown elected board chair of state association

Leflore County District 3 Supervisor Anjuan Brown recently was elected chairman of the 22-member board of directors of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
The position also makes him chairman of the association’s executive committee, and he’s excited about the opportunities that role creates.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
