Airport specialists will plan, seek development at Greenwood-Leflore

A team of airport development specialists will plan how the Greenwood-Leflore Airport board can attract new businesses to the airport.

The airport board Tuesday authorized Bardin Redditt, the airport manager, to negotiate a contract with Airport Development Group Inc. The contract should be ready by mid-March.

Geography bee winner has big plans

The winner of St. Francis of Assisi School's 2005 geography bee has put a new location on her career map.

"I want to be a geography teacher," says Ujuono Nwizu, 10, a fifth-grader.

Ujuono - at school, she's known as "Uju" - said math used to be her favorite subject, but now, she wants to study geography in college.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
