Board approves fee for filing public records

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors has authorized a new ordinance that will allow county officials to charge a $1 fee for filing public records.
The ordinance was unanimously approved during a Monday board meeting.

The documentary “A Man Called Hurt” was filmed in part during February 2022. The museum, which burned to the ground in February, is in the background. Family movie night set Saturday

The first of a series of family movie nights planned by Greenwood teacher and business owner Brandice Brown-Williams has been set for Saturday on the Leflore County Courthouse lawn.
People are invited to gather at 7 p.m., and the movie, “The Princess and the Frog,” will begin at 8 p.m. Everyone is invited at no charge.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
