County gives funds to MVSU mock trial team

No lead problem at MVSU

There’s no reason to worry about lead in Mississippi Valley State University’s drinking water, although it tested as contaminated in 2008, according to the Associated Press.

The AP reported on 1,400 water systems that exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency’s lead limit during the past decade.

Conference next for school bills

The education committees in both the state House and state Senate have declined to accept two area school consolidation bills, so these now are headed for conference.

The conference committees, each composed of three members from the House and three from the Senate, can take one of two actions.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
