Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks was elected to an 11th term.

Kelvin Pulley beat longtime county prosecutor Richard Oakes.

And a three-person race for chancery clerk resulted in victory for Johnny Gary Jr., pastor of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ in Glendora, over Mary Rice-Roberson and Debra Tate Hibbler.

The fanciful papier-mâché figures of Santa Claus and The Nutcracker positioned inside the Howard Street window of the Viking Cooking School make its manager happy.

Kimberly Gnemi smiled while talking about them Tuesday and looked at Santa, who was attached to the ceiling and drifting slightly with her touch.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
