Community Kitchen serves ‘pre-Christmas’ meal to many

The Community Kitchen served up hugs and hellos along with smiles and service during a “pre-Christmas” meal for its patrons Wednesday.

A crowd of folks showed up for the meal, a sing-along, words of encouragement and a healthy helping of Christmas cheer.

Woman burned by powder from unknown man

A woman in a car received facial burns from a powder released by a strange man who came up to her in a grocery store parking lot Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 9:30 or 10 a.m. in the Big Star parking lot in Eastgate Shopping Center, Assistant Police Chief Marvin Hammond said later in the day.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
