The J.Z. George girls and boys basketball teams pulled off a sweep of visiting Coahoma AHS Thursday night in North Carrollton in Region 3-2A play.

The Lady Jaguars, 12-4 overall, 6-0 in the league and winners of eight straight, beat the Lady Tigers 52-35 as Kenesha Henry poured in a game-high 15 points.

Pillow moves on in tourney

The Lady Mustangs, who beat Indianola 66-26 last night, play at 4:15 today against Oak Hill in one girls’ semifinal game. Oak Hill knocked off Heritage 57-44 Wednesday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
