Board appoints Strong in Beat 2

•VAIDEN — The Carroll County School Board Thursday night appointed Jim Strong to replace Marcus Kuykendall in Beat 2.

Kuykendall resigned at the March meeting.

Kenneth DeLoach nominated Strong, Laura Davis seconded it and Ben Shute also voted for him. Rubye Miller voted no.

Vaiden chief: Pay fine or go to jail

VAIDEN — People who owe fines to the city of Vaiden must pay by May 6, or they might find themselves riding to jail in a police car.

“They will be jailed until the fine is paid,” Police Chief Allen Vance said.

Supervisors agree to pay more for renovation of courthouse

VAIDEN — Carroll County supervisors voted to pay $7,650 more for courthouse renovations to the Carrollton courthouse Monday despite reservations about additional charges being added to the original bid.

Supervisor Marvin Coward cast the only “no” vote.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
