Cobbins to face Fluker in Beat 4 runoff

CARROLLTON — Carroll County Beat 4 Supervisor James “Bobby” Cobbins will face Claude Fluker in an Aug. 23 runoff.

Cobbins received 36.1 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s Democratic primary to 29.2 percent for Fluker. Others finishing behind them were Robert “Peewee” Blackmon, Jerry Branch and Willie James Coleman.

Supervisors consider adding county roads

VAIDEN — Carroll County supervisors received new road maps from Willis Engineering on Monday and discussed whether to add any more roads for public maintenance.

Beat 1 Supervisor Terry Herbert told the board there are people who live a significant distance from U.S. 82 but have addresses listed as being on the highway.

2 Carroll Co. post offices face ax

McCARLEY — Post offices in Coila and McCarley are among about 3,600 around the country being considered for closing, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service.

The sites may be closed after a study is completed, Nancy Ross said Tuesday.
